Answered Question: Midori & Subaru's Relationship
It haunts me for weeks but wdyt about Subaru x Midori (or Midori x Subaru whatever your preference) as ship? (about 2 people who crazy with Chiaki lmao)

(i took a long while to respond to this but i finally got the time to do it now!!)
LOVE their dynamic, love their history, love everything about them, but from a romantic perspective i don't really ship them. the only way i've thought about them in a romantic (?) way is when i've thought up some new idea on how to torture midori (as midori x subaru). and even then it's going to be midochia endgame, so i'd feel bad calling it an actual idea for the ship KSEGMSEKGK
the few ideas i've had before typically have something to do with chiaki (best point about these two, yum), with midori feeling lonely in his 2nd year, so subaru offers to be that replacement as a way to bond with midori and to continue chiaki's legacy in the basketball club. it goes terribly because subaru is Nothing like chiaki at all and midori's miserable, but it's the thought that counts ❤️
but for a more serious (?) answer, i like that subaru acts as a really good motivator for midori, since midori works So well with spiteful feelings, and i like that subaru has learned to approach constructive criticism with more empathy thanks to his clash with midori back in orihime and hikoboshi!! i love these two… so much…
i love how their relationship shows why chiaki's disposition worked so well with both of them, especially midori (who genuinely can't stand subaru vs how he's got much more complex feelings about chiaki). i like to think up ideas of how subaru's mere presence motivates midori to try harder, or maybe even the opposite. or just cute shenanigans between them during the basketball club until chiaki comes out of nowhere and annoys them…🥰
shout out and throwback to their interaction in 9.5 anniversary, and its subtle nod to their interaction in SS finals 😊

i don’t romantically ship it but their dynamic and relationship matters A L O T to me, including the influence they’ve had on each other because of their common link (chiaki being their senpai, chiaki having clung onto both of them, chiaki being why they even talk to each other since he invited both of them to the basketball club. just chiaki being the center point)
i think they’re such an important existence in each other’s lives, for subaru it helped him understand how to approach people with more sensitivity, and even connect with parts about himself (realizing he felt lonely and is still affected by that time in his 1st year for ex.) , and for midori… omfg god the things subaru has influenced midori to be able to do is sooooo good in so many ways. love the way we learn through his relationship with subaru that spite is an actual big motivating factor for him (something completely "negative" is actually really "positive" to midori showing his capabilities!). BUT ALSO. LOVE THE WAY IT’S BOTH SOOOO FUCKING FUNNY BUT ALSO SO IMPORTANT.
FOR EXAMPLE I WILL NEVER!!!!!! GET OVER!!!!!!!! THE WAY MIDORI’S PETTY FEELINGS TOWARDS SUBARU IS WHY A VERY MAJOR IMPORTANT EVENT HAPPENED IN RYUSEITAI’S STORYLINE.
